Barafundle Sky Line

This was a very imposing and dramatic skyline, taken almost in silhouette at Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire. Normally a beach recognised for it's summery, mediterranean look, I tried to capture the wild sense of foreboding present on that day. Dark tones and textures are emphasised by the strong back-lit trees.

I took this shot because I like the fizz and froth of the dandelions growing below the apple tress with their new leaves. A real spring shot of an orchard in the vale of Evesham, close to Hailes Abbey.

Another treeline shot almost as a silhouette. There is just enough light to develop the texture of the earth bank in which they grow. The light spots of the new leaves act as a counterpoint to the dark trunks.

Trees became a bit of an obsession over the last winter. The almost symmetrical shape of the canopies of a cluster of trees, no matter how the trunks and roots are grouped, is quite fascinating. This is a mound on a mound!

Almost a cliché, taking a photo of a group of trees from underneath, revealling the vertical lines of the trunks and the sky seen through spreading branches and twigs. The choice of mount and frame makes the final piece very dramatic. This is a much bolder statement than the majority of the other photos.

Like fingers reaching out of the lake. Another shot from Snowdonia, not only are there stark, dark lines highlighted through the black & white version of the shot, the water becomes a truly silvered mirror.

The colour version of this shot is more subtle. Whilst the reflection is still important, the blues offer a warmer, summery glow. I think you could almost hang this udside down without anyone noticing.
